Kleenkote DT 4 is a semi-permanent coating used as a glass release agent for blanks, molds, neck rings, bottom plates, and related equipment for glass container manufacture. It is supplied in a handy, easy-to-use aerosol container and can be conveniently applied without the need of additional spray equipment.
Kleenkote DT 4 does not contain chlorofluorocarbons [CFCs] or chlorinated solvents which are harmful to the environment. Kleenkote DT 4 deposits a smooth, uniform, tightly bonded film of graphite onto mold equipment surfaces which allows excellent loading, release and trouble-free start-ups.

SMOOTH UNIFORM COATING PRODUCES SHINY WARE
SURFACE PREPARATION

Clean and degrease the surface
Oil, rust, grease, loose particles or other materials should be thoroughly removed from all surfaces to be coated. It is recommended that the surface be degreased and sandblasted prior to application. Avoid finger marks and further contamination of cleaned surfaces before coating.

MIXING

Thoroughly agitate aerosol can to provide uniform product
The contents of the aerosol can may settle over time to the bottom of the can. The aerosol can should be thoroughly shaken before use to form a uniform mixture inside the can.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Hold can 8 to 10 inches [20 to 25 cms] from the surface
Apply a thin even coating
Allow to dry for several minutes
Apply two or three layers as above
Kleenkote DT 4’s aerosol package has a specially designed spray tip with a preset spray pattern, ensuring proper atomization of the product. Once activated, it will deliver a sufficient amount of the coating to the mold surface between each pass. The speed at which this is done will dictate the thickness of the coating deposited over the surface of the mold equipment. To avoid overloading, hold the can 8 to 10 inches [20 to 25 cms]from the surface to be sprayed. Apply a thin, even coat and allow to dry for a few minutes. Apply one or two more thin, even coats in the same manner. We recommend a coating thickness of between 1 and 2 mils (.001 to .002) be used. To make sure the coating thickness is accurate, a Biddle Thickness Gauge for measuring non-magnetic coatings over ferrous base substrate can be used.

CURING

Minimum of 250°C [482°F] for at least 20 minutes
If a gas fire unit is used, make sure flames do not touch the coated surface. Wipe the cavity lightly with a soft cloth or swab to remove fuzzy appearance or loose graphite particles. The coated mold surface should have a semi-gloss or satin finish. Coated and cured mold equipment can be either installed on the machine or stored for future use.

C A U T I O N !

Kleenkote DT 4’s aerosol package should not be exposed to temperatures above 49°C [120°F].
It should be stored in a cool place away from heat flame sources. Apply under an exhaust hood or in a well-ventilated area where solvent fumes can be drawn away.
